Preparations for the landing of the Hawaiki Cable on local soil are well underway.

The ship laying the cable in the ocean depths, has left nZew Zealand and is now in New Caledonia dropping off the branch there.

Then it goes to Tonga and Fiji before heading to American Samoa in a few weeks.

And while the cable laying at sea is in progress,  preparations are underway at the land sites where the cable will land.

Ted Leiato, ASTCA’s man in charge of the Hawaiki Cable Project says the cable is still targeted to go on line in June.

While the ship that’s laying the cable at sea is making its way here, the land site where the cable will be installed construction crews are being mobilized for work on land.
