Perhaps the most charismatic and most well known preachers in the territory, Reverend Elder Siaosi Mageo has passed away.
The former general superintendent of the Samoan World Fellowship of the Assembly of God Church died last Friday at the age of 85
Reverend Elder Mageo was a regular on the airwaves of the old Radio WVUV with his humorous but piercing sermons on the Taimi o le Faaolataga Program.
He continued his radio programs on KSBS Fm and also had a regular slot on KVZ TV.
His sermons didn’t shy away from criticizing government leaders and lawmakers, matais who flaunt their resources at faalavelave on the backs of their family members, women who play bingo and leave their kids at home and those who frequented beaches on Sundays or go to bars on weekends and sleep in on Sunday.
He was often called upon to officiate at government ceremonies and swearing in of new leaders being one of the elders of local church leaders.
And when he spoke his booming voice made one pay attention.
At the time of his passing Rev Elder Mageo had spent 53 years as the pastor at the Calvary temple Assembly of God Church, Lepuapua.
In his ministry he has been superintendent of the District Council AOG in American Samoa, and general superintendent of the Samoan World Fellowship of AOG.
He was the founder of the Samoa Bible College in Ottoville which has graduated hundreds of pastors who are now serving in AOG churches in both Samoa, Hawaii, and the US mainland.
Reverend Elder Mageo is also the owner of Pago Airport Inn in Petesa.
In his younger days he was a legendary fisherman and an accomplished steel guitar and ukulele player.
He was married to the late Malaea Brown and is survived by one son Poe Mageo, and six daughters, Diana, Aga, Sera, Arlene, Meanoa and Ruth.
Our deepest sympathies to his family
