Last week, local business South Pacific Watersports hosted a tour who booked their travels to American Samoa through an organization called Road Scholar.
The organization caters for travelers who want a depth of perspective not found on standard travel excursions.
American Samoa is marketed by Road Scholar as an ‘adventure, unique travel destination.’
The group that South Pacific Watersports, owned by Michael and Paul McDonald, hosted last week were here for a 7-day tour and vacation.
Mike MacDonald says the groups they host usually split their tjime between Tutuila and Manu’a, but the one from Road Scholar, was the first to go to Samoa.
The group visited Aunuu, Vatia (National Park), National Park
Visitors Center, and Ocean Center.
They also went on an outrigger canoe excursion hosted by South Pacific Watersport.
Their itinerary also included a walking tour which began at Utulei Beach and ended at the Fagatogo marketplace.
About 5 such groups are hosted by SPW each year.
The week long bookings/or tours are coordinated through the Pacific Island Institute in Hawaii.
MacDonald hopes to increase the number of these tours to American Samoa annually.
Their next group is scheduled to arrive in May and that group is here specifically for the National Park hikes and Fagatele Bay Ocean Center visit.
