Tax refunds will be issued soon! That’s according to an announcement from the Department of Treasury issued late Tuesday.
The announcement brings hope that the refund checks would be released in time for school graduations.
Treasury also strongly encouraged enrollment in direct deposit “to receive refunds more quickly and securely.”
In the past Treasury has issued refunds via paper checks picked up at the Disbursing Office, via mail boxes and direct deposit.
The announcement said direct deposit reduces delays associated with check processing and mailing.
Those wishing to enroll in direct deposit are asked to visit the Tax Office and provide a filled direct deposit form. The form is available under the direct deposit tab on form 390. They also need to submit a voided check or an official bank statement showing the tax payers name and full bank account details. The completed forms may also be submitted by email to tax.compliance@tr.as.gov
Treasury said enrollment should be completed prior to the release of tax refunds, and taxpayers are urged to complete the process within the week.
The Tax Office started accepting tax returns on April 20 and it’s estimated that more than 4,000 wage earners submitted their returns that day.
