House approves EITC bill in second vote

The House of Representatives took a second vote Friday morning on the bill to amend the Earned Income Tax Credit law.

The bill did not pass Thursday, with only 9 faipule supporting it while 6 voted nay. But on Friday all 15 representatives present voted in support of the proposed legislation. The House did not make any changes to the administration bill.

However the Senate included language in the bill which states that if federal funds are mot made available, the American Samoa government shall not be liable for Earned Income Tax Credit Payments under this law.

Release of the 2025 tax forms for filing tax returns is awaiting passage of this bill.
