Celebrity Edge returns to drop off sick passenger

The cruise ship Celebrity Edge which left port yesterday evening returned to Pago Pago this morning.

Director of Port Administration Barney Sene said the cruise ship was dropping off a passenger who fell ill. A local resident who talked with a passenger on board the cruise ship said that the passenger suffered a stroke. An ambulance was waiting at the dock to transport the ill traveler to the LBJ Hospital.

The Celebrity Edge, with about 3,000 travelers and 1,300 crew members, departed after the passenger was safely brought to shore.

According to its itinerary the cruise ship, operated by Celebrity Cruises, is heading to New Zealand.
