Pago Pago Representative Trude Ledoux-Sunia is asking to review the Department of Health inspection report for Samoana High School after visiting the school this week and seeing several notices posted on classrooms and the gym indicating that several areas are under limited use or fully closed.
Writing to the head of the Environmental Services Division of DOH, Aileen Solaita, she said the number of affected facilities designated for limited use or closed, raises major concerns regarding the overall condition and safety of the campus. Many students from her district attend Samoana and as the parent of a Samoana student, the faipule said she takes the condition of the school campus very seriously.
Ledoux-Sunia has requested a copy of the inspection report for Samoana, including documents describing the issues that have led to classrooms or facilities being conditioned for limited use or fully closed. She also requested any recommended corrective actions, repair timelines and coordination efforts with the Department of Education to resolve the deficiencies found.
She pledged that she would work with DOH, DOE leadership and maintenance division, Samoana leadership and the PTA to ensure that the deficiencies are properly addressed and that affected classrooms and facilities are made safe and returned to full use as soon as possible.
