AS women give NZ toughest challenge at World Cup qualifiers

American Samoa’s National Womens Soccer team lost to New Zealand at the Women’s World Cup 2027 Oceania qualifiers in the Solomon Islands. The final score was 3-0.

But our girls sure gave New Zealand a tough battle. As reported by Impetus Football American Samoa posed New Zealand’s biggest challenge yet in the tournament by maintaining a disciplined defensive line that restricted New Zealand’s scoring opportunities to set pieces and long range efforts.

New Zealand dominated possession in the first half but struggled to work through American Samoa’s defensive line. “The tournament’s underdogs stayed disciplined, keeping their lines tight and denying any gaps for the Ferns to have clear sight on goal despite constant pressure.” However despite an admirable and patient performance, American Samoa couldn’t break down New Zealand’s quality or control.

Despite the loss American Samoa has secured its place in the semi finals of the World Cup Oceania qualifiers.

American Samoa’s Kobe Teofilo spoke with Oceania Football Confederation after the match.
