The American Samoa Government was represented at the 3 day Envisory Pacific Partnership Energy Conference in New Zealand this week by the Director of the Office of Disaster Assistance and Petroleum Management and Chief Petroleum Officer Lologa Olo and Petroleum Officer Eleanor Sataua.

They joined regional energy leaders, regulators, and industry experts to discuss shared challenges and opportunities shaping the Pacific’s energy future.

The theme of the conference was “Energy Resilience – Strengthening Supply, Standards, and Security in the Pacific.”

EPPEC 2026 centered on five priority areas critical to long term regional stability.

  • Energy Security- advancing reliable and affordable access to fuel and electricity.
  • Infrastructure Standards-improving safety and performance of storage and distribution systems.
  • Commercial Storage Arrangements- expanding shared infrastructure to reduce costs.
  • Bulk Procurement & Fuel Hedging -strengthening cooperative purchasing and risk management frameworks.
  • Regulatory & Market Reforms- enhancing transparency, pricing oversight, and competitive markets.

Director Olo highlighted American Samoa’s strong standing in the region, stating, “I am pleased to report that American Samoa surpasses most Pacific Islands in developing energy infrastructure, managing wholesale fuel pricing, and ensuring compliance with EPA standards. Most importantly, we maintain resilient fuel security capable of withstanding emergencies and natural disasters”.
