The United Citizens of American Samoa has continued to drum up support against the bill to raise the salaries of the Fono.

They are still collecting signatures for their petition to stop the bill, and at the same time waiting for a response from the Senate President to their letter stating the reasons why the bill should not be passed.

As we reported earlier when the Fono recessed after Monday’s session.the salary bill was still with the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Senator Laolagi Vaeao told KHJ News he doesn’t know if the bill will be reviewed at all when senators return from their two week break.

Meanwhile there’s speculation among political observers that House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale is holding on to Laolagi’s bill to remove the $5 million debt for the LBJ Hospital, as a bargaining chip to get the salary bill passed.

Back to United Citizens of American Samoa, one of the key members of the group Laurie Pouesi says they believe the House Bill does not pass an ethical standards.
