
The US Department of War has announced that it will provide funding for the Google Le Vasa Cable.
The announcement was made yesterday at the Pacific Agenda Investment, Security and Shared Prosperity Summit in Honolulu, by US Marine Major General George Powell IV, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy, US Indo-PACOM The Google cable is among projects that the Department of War is funding in the Pacific region.

Attending the Summit in Honolulu are Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula, ASTCA CEO Folasaitu Sorepa Fata Thomas, Executive Financial Advisor Brett Butler, Director of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia and Michael McDonald Assistant Director of the Department of Port Administration.
ASTCA CEO Folasaitu said that at the request of Governor Pulaalii and herself, a high-level delegation led by INDO-PACOM will arrive in the territory in April to officially announce the $15 million funding award from the Department of War in partnership with ASTCA and the American Samoa Government.
She added that, AP Telecom will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study of our entire telecommunications framework. A primary focus of this mission is workforce development, providing specialized training to ASTCA engineers so they can independently manage and self-sustain these vital operations.
“By focusing on both world-class infrastructure and our local talent, we are ensuring that American Samoa’s communications backbone remains resilient and managed right here at home,” said the ASTCA CEO.
