Update on Tax Year 2025 tax filing forms

The Tax Year 2025 income tax filing forms should be available in the week beginning March 9, according to an announcement from Acting Treasurer Carri-lee Magalei Tulafono

She explained that the delay is due to recent legislation and federal updates which must be implemented before the forms can be officially issued. And there’s good news for local wage earners.

According to the Acting Treasurer, federal authorities have recently provided updated guidance on the Child Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit for the 2025 tax year. The Child tax Credit is raised from $500 to $2,000 and the Additional Child Tax Credit is raised from $1,400 to $1,700 per qualifying child. Additionally, the Additional Child Tax Credit will no longer be limited to taxpayers with 3 or more qualifying children. Instead taxpayers with 1 or 2 qualifying children can now receive the ACTC.

Another cause for the delay is that the territory is awaiting final legislation related to the Earned Income Tax Credit to ensure proper processing and compliance.

The Department of Treasury is extending the local tax filing deadline from April 15 to May 29, 2026 to allow taxpayers adequate time to file accurately under these updated provisions.

The Acting Treasurer thanks the public for their understanding and patience.
