The LBJ Hospital is having to look for a company to build an ARPA funded project after it terminated the construction contract with the original contractor.

The Talatala le Taui Show reports that the hospital served a notice of termination to Willis Construction, the contractor that was to build a training facility for the LBJ at the site where the EMS headquarters was. However up to now there has been no construction activity whatsoever.

The notice cited as reasons for termination:

  • Failure to make payments to subcontractors and suppliers;
  • Failure to progress the project in a timely manner;
  • Failure to deliver 100% construction drawings and
  • Other unspecified breaches of the contract.

The notice of termination was preceded by a January 22, notice of work stoppage from Willis Construction to LBJ’s CEO.

The ground breaking for the project was held in December of 2023.

The Talatala Le Taui report said that $1.7 million had already been paid to the company.

KHJ News understands that the LBJ Hospital is to issue a Request for Proposals this week to find a new contractor to build the training facility.

Questions sent to the CEO of the LBJ Hospital Scott Anesi have not been answered.
