A seven-month-old girl has died from dengue fever in Samoa, the first fatality from dengue for 2026.

The Samoa Observer reports she was admitted to the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital on Monday.

Medical staff at the hospital confirmed that the baby had dengue fever and other complications.

They said the baby apparently started getting sick last Saturday, but she was only admitted on Monday.

Last year, seven children in Samoa lost their lives to dengue fever.

As of yesterday, the Ministry of Health had recorded a cumulative total of 16,299 clinically diagnosed dengue cases since January 2025.

Children under 15 years of age accounted for 74 percent of the cases.
