Acting Treasurer Brett Butler did not pass a second confirmation vote in the House of Representatives on Thursday. Only 8 Representatives voted to approve him as Treasurer of the American Samoa Government while ten representatives voted no.

When the House conducted its first vote on Butler last week he received 10 yes votes, one vote short of winning confirmation, and 9 nay votes.

Reps Lua’itaua Gene Pan and Manavaalofa Tutuila Manase were absent at Thursday’s House session and Rep. Fagaima Larry Sanitoa arrived just after the results of the vote was called. The House session started earlier than usual.

Senators had unanimously given their approval to Butler to serve as Treasurer. The Governor has the option of resubmitting Butler’s nomination at the Fono’s next session.

Butler was appointed as Acting Treasurer in September of last year and before that he was the Financial Advisor to the Governor.
