A Samoan music icon, Faasavalu Dave Parker, passed away Wednesday at his home in Tapatapao.

Some referred to him as Samoa’s Engelbert Humperdinck and Elvis Presley. He entertained in New Zealand, Hawaii and the US mainland and many Pacific islands, including American Samoa. One of his most popular songs was Sau Ia Oe Lo’u Au (Tofa La’u Pele).

After living in New Zealand for many decades, he returned to Samoa in the early 1990’s and set up a recording studio. He later opened his Eco Lodge accommodations at Tapatapao.

His son Leifi Ventry Parker told the Samoa Observer his father’s last words to him were: “I have lived a good life. I am happy with everything. I have no complaints. He was 78.
