In our story about Senator Togiola Tulafono resigning as chairman and member of the Senate Select Investigative Committee, KHJ News quoted Togiola saying that he had also discussed the issue of a potential conflict of his dual role—as chairman of the SSIC looking into the imported vehicles from China and being counsel for the businesses that imported the same vehicles—with the Attorney General. And the answer was “there is no conflict.”
Attorney General Gwen Tauiliili-Langkilde has requested a clarification for accuracy, stating that while she did raise the issue of potential conflict with Togiola, it was his position—not hers or the Attorney General’s Office—that no conflict existed. The AG said that in fact, she had given Togiola prior notice before last week’s hearing that she would be raising the conflict issue at the hearing.
