Production for 2026 at StarKist Samoa has gotten off to a good start, with one of the highest worker turnouts after the annual two week shutdown for the holidays.
Deputy General Manager Tufuga Faafoi Palepua said the boat schedule from Samoa delayed the arrival of some workers but they were able to start production on Tuesday with a strong workforce.
“We have about 1700 now but by the week of January 12 we would have our full workforce of more than 2000,” he said.
For 2026 the cannery has a production goal of 450 metric tons per day up from 440 last year. The cannery is also starting a pet food line later in the year.
Tufuga said they are producing just four days this week but will resume their 5 day a week production schedule January 12.
The cannery is still bringing in guest workers from Samoa. Tufuga said they have approval for 500 guest workers spread over the next few months.
