An organization dedicated to aiding first responders,  Tunnel to Towers Foundation,  has paid off the mortgage of a Samoan member of the Honolulu police force who died in the line of duty in 2023.

Officer Bill Sapolu of Waipahu died on Aug. 8, 2023 after a motorcycle crash as he was responding to a call. Sapolu donated his organs to help save the lives of others. He was 46 years old.

In honor of his life and to relieve his wife and children of financial burdens, Tunnel to Towers paid off the remainder of their Waipahu home’s mortgage as part of the organization’s seventh annual Season of Hope

“I am deeply grateful to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for honoring Bill’s sacrifice and for giving my family the priceless gift of a mortgage-free home,” said Bill’s wife Christina. “This home is not just a new beginning; it is a tribute to Bill’s service, a reflection of the love he had for his community, and a reminder that his spirit continues to protect and guide us.”

For Christina, the donation from Tunnel to Towers marks one less burden in an already difficult time.
