BHE is not renewing contract of ASCC President

The Board of Higher Education, which oversees the American Samoa Community College, is not renewing the contract of current president, Dr. Rosevonne Makaiwi-Pato.

A memo from the Chairman of the Board, Rev. Elder Fouvale Asiata, which was distributed to the ASCC administration, faculty, staff and students on Monday, said that “after careful consideration, the Board has decided that President Dr. Rosevonne Pato’s contract, expiring on December 1, 2025, will not be renewed.”

The memo said the president and leadership were informed of the decision yesterday, November 24, 2025, during a Board meeting.

“The Board expresses sincere appreciation for Dr. Pato’s contributions and service to ASCC. She is wished the best in her future endeavors.”

The memo also states that effective December 2, 2025, Chair Rev. Elder Fouvale Asiata will be interim president until further notice.

Dr. Pato has been President of ASCC since December of 2016, but was Acting President since October of that year, when then-President Dr. Seth Galeai retired for medical reasons.

Before being appointed president, she held various leadership positions, including Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, and Vice President of Administrative Services.

She was an academic counselor in the Student Services Department, an instructor for both the Health and Human Services Program and the Teacher Education, American Samoa Bachelor’s in Education Program, as well as an adjunct instructor for the Social Services Department. She has worked at the American Samoa Community College for nearly 25 years.
