
The Basic Food Index for September dropped 1.4% compared to August.
The Basic Food Index monitors the cost and availability of 20 food products available at 16 major to mid size retail stores.
The decline was attributed to lower prices for nine food items. The biggest drop was in the cost of eggs which dropped 14.3%.
In July one dozen small Nulaid eggs cost $5.13, then dropped to $4.53 in August and last month the price was $3.88.
The price of chicken dropped 2.3%. In July a 10 kilogram case of chicken was $19.76. and remained at that price in August, but in September the cost dropped to $19.31.
Rice dropped 1.8%, saimin dropped 1.7%, spare ribs dropped $1.6 % sausage went down .9%, fish down .8%, ice cream dropped .7% and butter dropped .2%.
Food items whose prices increased in September include turkey tails up 3.5%, bread up .8%, banana up .6% corned beef and tuna up .4% and sugar increased .3%.
In July the price of turkey tails was $2.19 per lb, then went up to $2.30 in August and last month the price was $2.38/lb.
Food items whose prices remained the same include mayonnaise, milk, soda, taro and water.
