
A home caught fire in Pavaiai Saturday afternoon.
Director of the Department of Search and Rescue, Utumoe Alefosio said the fire occurred between 2 and 3 p.m. in the afternoon in the area of the Tongan settlement in Pavaiai. Most of the contents of the home were destroyed, but part of the home was saved. Alefosio said it was fortunate that the blaze was extinguished before it spread to nearby homes.
Also, on Monday morning, a fire was reported in Fagatogo village. The fire stated from a rubbish fire and burned down an uninhabited structure which was being taken down.
Director Alefosio cautions residents to please be careful when burning trash, especially when its windy and the ground is dry.
