The LBJ Tropical Medical Center held a blessing ceremony Monday before the first operation was conducted in its new operating suite.

Acting Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. joined the LBJ Hospital Board, doctors, nurses, and employees for the event, which began with a blessing by LBJ Chaplain Rev. Tumau Petaia.

Acting Governor Pulumataala commended the hospital for its tireless efforts to improve infrastructure and raise the standard of care for the people of American Samoa.

“This is the direction we are proud to pursue together,” he said. “Seeing great things happen for the betterment of our island is a shared vision, and today is a testament to that.”

The operating suite, which has two operating rooms, was officially opened in November of last year, but it is only now being used after installation of all necessary equipment.
