The Fono’s new guest fale, which was dedicated a few months ago is leaking badly.
The building, which was renovated under a no bid contract with a budget of $500,000, but is understood to have cost much more, is leaking in several spots.
Employees of the contractor,Paramount Builders, were seen on the roof of the fale this morning making repairs.
The fale has several air conditioners which from our own observations are on even when the building is not in use.
Since the Fono fale was completed and put to use at the opening of the first regular session of the 35th Legislature it has been locked up, no longer a venue for the senators’ morning coffee and their lunch breaks.
A Senate conference room, another unbudgeted renovation job from a previous legislature, has become the venue for those informal gatherings..
