From Samoa, an electric fault is the suspected cause of a fire inside the Peace Chapel Church at Vaimea on Saturday.

Although the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority arrived quickly to prevent the fire from totally destroying the building, the incident meant the Church had to make alternative plans for their Sunday services.

An A F.E.S.A official who is not authorised to speak to the media said they are investigating the cause of the fire.

The source said the fire seems to have started from inside the building.

“We believe it’s an electrical fault that caused the fire. There were small things that were damaged by the fire but luckily we arrived at the scene early.

“It could’ve gotten worse but thankfully nobody got hurt. We are still finalising the reports in regards to the incident.”

Pastor Samoa Unoi of the Peace Chapel told the Samoa Observer he believes it was an electrical fault.

“We are still waiting for the final report from the Fire Services,” he said. “But the incident came as a shock to us on Saturday night because nobody was here during the incident.

“The only thing that we are thankful for is that nobody got hurt.

“We thank God that only some parts of the building were destroyed but the actual place is still standing.”
