Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga is seeking support from leaders of Pacific Island Forum (PIF) members to ensure that American Samoa’s application for associate membership in PIF is on the agenda when the PIF meets next month.

In a letter to Solomon Islands, Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, the Governor said, “We have been actively working with senior officials of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) to ensure all procedural requirements are met.”

He said an essential part of those procedural requirements was completed in the last week June, with a PIF delegation, led by Ratu William Toganivalu, Fiji’s Roving Ambassador to the Pacific, visiting the territory to assess the extent of our alignment to the criteria for Associate Membership.

“I, again, seek your government’s support in advocating through your Senior Officials at the upcoming Forum Officials Committee (FOC) meeting in August 2024, the inclusion of Amerika Samoa’s application on the agenda for the PIF Leaders meeting scheduled for August 2024 in the Kingdom of Tonga,” he urged.
