A fight between athletes from Samoa and American Samoa at the recent Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands was quickly sorted out before it got out of hand.
Team Samoa Chef de Mission Leiataualesa Jerry Brunt told a press conference yesterday, it was not a major brawl but just a difference between Samoan athletes from the basketball team and those from the American Samoa team.
“We managed to sort it out and make peace with each other as they are our brothers from American Samoa and not strangers, then that was it. There were no prolonged threats,” he said.
Meanwhile, Leiataualesa said the brawl that broke out after the gold medal match between Fiji and winner Samoa is now with the International Rugby League who are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Videos of both incidents were circulated on social media.
The video of the rugby league fight clearly shows who the individual was and has been identified by many people in Samoa.
Leiataualesa said it’s not sure who started the brawl but it was confirmed that it was someone wearing the Team Samoa apparel.
