
Governor Lemanu Peleti S. Mauga departed Monday night to attend the United States Coral Reef Task Force meeting scheduled for Oct 21-28 in St.Thomas, Virgin Islands.
The task force is composed of representatives from 13 federal agencies, seven US states and territories, and three Freely Associated States and commonwealths.
Its main function is to coordinate efforts to preserve and protect coral reef ecosystems.
The meeting provides an important opportunity for stakeholders to come together and discuss key issues pertaining to the preservation of invaluable marine ecosystems.
A public meeting schedule for Thursday, October 26, aims to engage community members in shaping strategies that can effectively address challenges impacting coral reefs.
On his way to and from the Virgin Islands, Governor Lemanu will connect with military service members and their families stationed in Hawaii and Tampa, Florida.
A press release from the Governor’s Office says the Governor stresses the “utmost significance of fully supporting and acknowledging the unwavering commitment and sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.”
Governor Lemanu is accompanied by Commander Alapati Fano and Secretary Seuta’atia Sally Faumuina. Staff of the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources are also attending the meeting.
While the Governor is away Lt. Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale is Acting Governor.
