Samoa police have charged three men following the death of a United States citizen after an incident at Taumeasina Hideaway in Moataa village over the weekend.
The Samoa Observer reports that the deceased has been identified as Patronia Salele, 53, of Moata’a, who lived in California and had been visiting Samoa for a week.
Assistant Police Commissioner Leausalilo Norman Meni told the newspaper that the three men had been charged with assault causing death in connection with Salele’s death.
According to family members, Salele had been due to return to the United States yesterday.
Since his death, relatives and friends have shared tributes on social media.
“You were taken from us too soon and in circumstances that no family should ever have to endure,” one family member wrote.
Another person who knew Salele said that although their meeting was brief, “his warmth, generosity and alofa left a lasting impression.”
Known to many as “Logi”, another tribute read: “Can’t believe you’re gone, Unc Logi.”
