ASTCA partners with Reid Group for 250th Independence Day celebration

The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) has announced a full slate of major community events and tournaments to mark America’s 250th Independence Day on July 4th.

Organizers say this year’s festivities will be “one for the books,” bringing together families, athletes, and music lovers from across the islands.

The celebration will feature:
• Women’s Cricket Tournament
• The iconic Fautasi Race
• An International 7’s Rugby Tournament
• A live concert headlined by Stan Walker, with performances by Kennyon Brown and DJ Noiz
• Fireworks and Drone Show

Last Saturday, the 250th Women’s Cricket Tournament was opened in Vailoa, with Niko Wendt, CEO of the Reid Group pitching the ceremonial first ball. There are 19 village teams competing.

250th Women’s Cricket Chairman, Mariana Timu-Faiai said, “We have announced the prizes at three different meetings with all the team captains and team managers, increasing the amount each time.

“At the kickoff, we set the 1st prize at $18,000, the second prize at $15,000, the third prize at $13,000, and the fourth prize at $10,000. All other participating teams will each receive $7,000.

Reid Group (GHC Reid & Company, Samoa Motors, Pago Motors, Vaimalu Purifed Water, and Peter E. Reid Stevedoring) has joined forces with the ASTCA #HomeTeam and the American Samoa Government (ASG) as key partners for the Independence Day events.
