The Port Administration of American Samoa (PAAS) provides an update on the Terminal Parking Lot Expansion Project at Pago Pago International Airport.
As of April 18, 2026, the project has reached 155 days of its 600-day contract period and continues to progress steadily through key drainage and infrastructure phases.
This important infrastructure project is part of PAAS’s long-term strategy to modernize landside airport operations and address longstanding challenges related to traffic flow, flooding, and parking capacity. At present, the terminal parking facility meets only approximately 57% of existing demand, resulting in congestion during peak travel periods.
Once completed, the expansion will increase parking capacity by more than 50% and deliver significant operational and passenger experience improvements.
PAAS Director Barney Sene said, “This parking lot expansion is a critical first step in transforming the landside operations at Pago Pago International Airport. By improving traffic flow, separating service vehicle movements from private traffic, and enhancing pedestrian safety, we are laying the groundwork for a safer, more efficient, and more resilient airport for the people of American Samoa.”
The $8.8 million Parking Lot phase is funded through a combination of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program grants and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) resources.
