American Samoa has ample fuel supplies, assures ASG’s Petroleum Officer Eleanor Sataua. Her office has been receiving inquiries from businesses and individuals who are concerned that the crisis in the Middle East would affect fuel supplies for the territory.

Sataua said American Samoa has a 20 day reserve supply and assured that there’s no delay or disruption in the schedule of fuel tankers coming to the territory. “One arrived on Monday and the next one is on schedule,” she told KHJ News.

She further assured that according to the government’s agreement with one of the fuel suppliers, it can bring in a tanker in a timely manner, if for some reason supplies run low. And the supplier can do that because it owns a fuel tanker.

Sataua added that the fuel tank farm has more than enough storage capacity.

She said the issue is not supply, but the price of fuel going up.
