Pacific Horizons sophomore, Alana Joserose, is among 55 middle and high school students named by EXPLR as 2026 National STEM champions.
She gets an all expenses paid trip to Washington DC in June to showcase her project, “Cracking the Code on Coconut Water,” at the National STEM Festival.
Alana devised a way to preserve the freshness of coconuts, in an attempt to offer coconut water, niu, as a much healthier alternative to soda. She says high consumption of soda is one of the main causes of diabetes in the islands.

“The 2026 Champions have raised the bar for what we thought was possible at this level. They’re already building the technologies, cures, and systems America needs. What this cohort has produced deserves real weight and real attention, and the National STEM Festival exists to make sure those with the power to amplify their work know exactly where to look,” said Jenny Buccos, Co-Director of the National STEM Festival and Founder & CEO of EXPLR.
