Former Governor Lolo Moliga welcomed home

A large crowd of government leaders, church ministers and those who worked with former Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga gathered Tuesday night to welcome him home and also to express their sympathies to former First Lady Cynthia Malala Moliga, children and grandchildren.

His body arrived on Tuesday night‘s Hawaiian Airlines flight.

Mrs Moliga, her children and grandchildren, along with Lolo’s brother, Commissioner of Public Safety Taaga Saite Moliga and other family members, accompanied him home.

Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula was at the airport awaiting the arrival of the former Governor’s remains. Police carried Lolo’s coffin which was draped with a US flag into the awaiting hearse and the procession made its way to the CCCAS Tala Lelei o le Faaolataga Church in Iliili for a prayer service, led by Rev Faafetai Fuimaono.

Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean, House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale, Chief Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr., former Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, current and former cabinet members turned out to honor a man who has served the territory in so many capacities and left an indelible mark in the lives of those he touched.

Taaga spoke on behalf of Mrs Moliga and family to thank everyone who was present at a late hour to show their respects for Lolo. He said their presence has brought comfort to their family.

Following the service the late Governor’s body was taken to the LBJ Hospital morgue. Funeral services are scheduled for April 10 and 11.
