Farm Fair to celebrate Samoan Language Month

One of the activities in celebration of Samoan Language Month opened Wednesday morning at the Suiga ula o le Atuvasa in Utulei. It’s a Farm Fair hosted jointly by the Samoan Language Commission and the Department of Agriculture. The park is lined with tents displaying and selling taros, bananas, fruits, trees and plants, clothing, handicrafts and an array of cooked food.

There are also demonstrations of elei printing, making traditional fish traps, basket weaving and serving ava. There are also Samoan language classes. The Fair continues into the evening with Samoan entertainment.

 

The Director of the Samoan Language Commission, Valasi Elisapeta Alaimaleata explained the correlation between Samoan language and farming.
