Former Governor Lolo makes final trip home

Former Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga is making his final trip home. His body is scheduled to arrive on tonight’s Hawaiian Airlines flight.

According to a family announcement, he will be taken directly from the airport to the Tala Lelei o le Faaolataga CCCAS Church in Ili‘ili for a prayer service, after which he will be transported to the LBJ Hospital morgue.

Funeral services are set for April 10th and 11th. At 10 a.m. on April 10th, his body will be taken from the morgue to the Tala Lelei o le Faaolataga CCCAS Church for a family service. Following that service, he will lie in state at his family home in Ili‘ili for a wake and traditional observances.

His final funeral service will be held at his home in Ili‘ili on April 11 at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the family residence in Pago Pago.

KHJ News understands that a state service is being planned in honor of the former Governor, with details to be finalized following the return of Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula from Honolulu last night.

Lolo served two terms as Governor of American Samoa. He was also President of the Senate, a member of the House of Representatives for Manu‘a District #2, and held several cabinet posts including Budget Director and Chief Procurement Officer. He passed away at Kuakini Medical Center on March 6 at the age of 78.
