Only two nominees for the Board of Directors of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau showed up for a confirmation hearing in the Senate Thursday morning. Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee, Senator Togiola Tulafono said the fault was with the Governor’s Office for failing to notify the other board members about the hearing.
The two members who appeared were Aliimuamua Magdalene Petaia, Director of Commerce and Vaiutusala Sataua Dr Mataese Samuelu, Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs. Both said that they were willing and ready to serve on the American Samoa Visitors Bureau Board of Directors.
During the Senate session Togiola moved to approve all five nominees and instead of voting by secret ballot they should vote by a show of hands.
Senators unanimously approved all five nominees through a single vote. Besides Aliimuamua and Vaiutusala, the other board members are Tisa Faamuli, Sosene Asifoa Jr. and Rosalind Polu.
