The high school girls basketball tournament resumed last Thursday after being suspended for more than a week.

DOE Director Maefau Dr Mary Taufetee had suspended all school sports March 2 pending a full internal review relating to the Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Director held a meeting with school principals and coaches last Wednesday to discuss the issues which led to her decision to pause school sports. A principal who attended the more than 2-hour long meeting said while it started tense it ended well after everyone had a chance to share their thoughts and opinions. In the end everyone supported the director’s decision to continue the girls basketball tournament and complete the remaining competitions for this school year.

KHJ News understands that Athletics Director Suaese Pooch Taase who had been put on administrative leave with pay, has returned to work and is running the DOE sports programs once again.
