The former Executive Director of the American Samoa Power Authority Wallon Young Fong says it has been a great honor for him to serve as Executive Director for ASPA for the last 7 years, out of his 26 years at ASPA.
He said in a statement, “As a private person, I had chosen to remain silent since my removal from ASPA. It has however, become necessary for me to address accusations of fraud, especially on social media. The basic definition of fraud is: the intentional use of deception, trickery or dishonest acts for personal gain.”
He said, “In all my 26 years at ASPA, I have never committed or permitted any fraud in ASPA. If any person in American Samoa has any evidence that Wallon Young committed fraud or allowed fraud to occur at ASPA, please release the evidence to the public. You have my full consent.
“FNU (Fiji National University) and PPA (Pacific Power Association) are not companies in Fiji owned by Wallon Young, as some have alleged. ASPA recently wired funds to both FNU and PPA for tuition and rental apartment costs for 6 ASPA apprentices studying in Fiji.”
The former executive director included a March 8 email he received from Board Director and Interim Executive Director of ASPA, Mr Douglas Buhr in which Buhr states, “For the record no one has accused you of fraud and we will make that clear to the media.”
Young Fong said, “I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all who have supported me over the years; there are too many to name.
“I end with this message: ASPA will forever be in my heart. I call on all ASPA employees to support the interim Executive Director, Mr. Douglas Buhr and please continue efforts to improve utility services in the territory.
“May God Bess ASPA, ASG, the FONO and the People of American Samoa. Tofa Soifua!”
