The National Weather Service Office in Tafuna has reason to celebrate. It is now elevated to a full weather forecast office.

On Thursday, the Director of the National Weather Service Ken Graham announced that the 123rd Weather Forecast Office is in American Samoa.

Meteorologist-in-Charge at the National Weather Service, Tafuna Elinor Lutu-McMoore said this unlocks more resources for the local weather office with regards to additional staffing and tools including a weather radar. She added this is part of a broader strategy across the National Weather Service to modernize and strengthen the high level service it brings to communities.

Lutu-McMoore said she will elaborate on the new status and benefits for American Smaoa when she returns from the meeting of National Weather Service managers held in Kansas City.
