Parents urged to help stop spread of RSV

The Department of Health is closely monitoring the spread of Respiratory Syncytial Virus, (RSV) cases and is urging parents to take precautions to protect young children and adults with health problems.

In February of last year day care centers were closed for a few weeks due to a rapid increase in RSV cases. DOH Epidemiologist Adam Konrote says we are coming into the RSV season and they have noticed a spike in cases presenting at the community health centers and the LBJ Hospital.

Konrote says for now the RSV spread is not at a point to warrant a recommendation for any closures.
