Samoa’s Ministry of Health has urged that with the ongoing dengue outbreak in the country, prevention measures should continue as new cases reach 56.
The warning comes as the ministry revealed one death and 11 cases admitted to hospital this week.
Samoa Observer reports the ministry reported the cases to be from January 26 to February 2, 2026, and urged the public to follow advice to keep families and communities safe.
Samoa has been experiencing a dengue outbreak which was officially declared in April 2025.
The Ministry confirmed the recent death of a seven-month-old baby, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths to eight since the outbreak began.
These admitted patients are being closely monitored, and none are in the intensive care unit.
Health officials say dengue cases are increasing in parts of Samoa, especially in northwest Upolu, from Vaimauga to Sagaga, and in Savai’i, mainly in the Faasaleleaga and Palauli districts.
Authorities are urging communities to take precautions.
