
The President and CEO of StarKist Co., the parent company of StarKist Samoa, Mr. Eunhong Edward Min, is in the territory this week to visit the local cannery and hold meetings with ASG leaders.
Deputy General Manager of StarKist Samoa Tufuga Faafoi Palepua said Mr Min is discussing with Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula the possibility of StarKist Samoa taking over the lease of the Samoa Tuna Processors plant at Atuu. At present StarKist is leasing the facility from STP however it is exploring the feasibility of leasing directly from ASG.
The current lease between StarKist and STP expires in 2028 said Tufuga. StarKist is using the STP plant for packing cans and pouches and final labeling for export.
StarKist Samoa intends to use the STP facility for its pet food production which it aims to bring on line later this year.
Mr Min met with Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula Tuesday morning and a courtesy visit with Fono leaders is scheduled for Wednesday.
The StarKist CEO and President is accompanied by StarKist Co.’s General Counsel Scott Meese. They arrived Monday night and will depart Thursday.
