The Department of Education is hosting a Public Education Summit Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the American Samoa Community College Multi-Purpose Center.
The purpose of the summit is to engage stakeholders in identifying community and student needs to be included in the American Samoa Department of Education’s Strategic Plan.
Educators, policy makers, and community leaders have been invited to the Summit for a discussion which will gather input on the skills and competencies that students in American Samoa need to succeed after high school.
A statement from DOE says the event is designed to foster shared understanding of our current educational strengths and challenges, discuss current and future workforce needs, and share ideas to develop a vision for an American Samoa high school graduate.
Director of Education Maefau Dr. Mary Taufetee said, “By collaborating and sharing perspectives we can create a shared vision that will inform our strategic work to strengthen our public schools and ensure every student is prepared for success when they leave our education system.”
Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula will be the guest speaker. There will be various panels and data presentations on workforce, K-12 education, higher education and trends in mental health and well being.
The summit is from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
