The Territorial Science Fair opened Monday morning at the DYWA Center in Tafuna with Explorer’s Day for Kindergarten to Grade 2 students displaying their science projects.

This level is not a competition, just an exhibition of the efforts of the young scientists with the hope that it will cement their interest in STEM fields.

“How to make ice cream with milk,” “How plants drink water”, “The Invisible Ink”, “Which drinks hurt teeth the most”, “The DNA of papaya”, “Can a water fountain work without electricity”, “Which of cold water or warm water blows up a balloon faster”, were among the many projects on display.

And the young ones did not need any prodding explaining their research.

Students from public and private schools on Tutuila, Aunuu, and Manu’a entered projects and outstanding work will receive awards.

Alice Moeolo, the Science Fair Coordinator said even at the K-2 level, the students’ projects show a high standard of knowledge.
