ASG to sign agreement with Google for Le Vasa Cable

The American Samoa Government and Google will sign an agreement on Wednesday for a new submarine cable that has been named by Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula as Le Vasa.

Arriving Tuesday night for the signing ceremony is Mr Brian Quigley, Google Vice President-Global Network Infrastructure,  who will be accompanied by a team of engineers.

CEO of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority Folasaitu Sorepa Thomas says details of the new cable will be announced at the signing ceremony.

She explained that the government’s main objective in securing the new Le Vasa cable is to provide redundancy or backup as the territory currently has only the Hawaiki Cable. The route for the new cable is from here to Guam and on to Hawaii.  The US Department of War will also have a role in establishing the new cable.

The Google Vice President will be welcomed at an ava ceremony hosted by Nu’uuli Village on Wednesday morning.

The signing pf the agreement will take place ag a luncheon at Lee Auditorium on Wednesday where both the Governor and the Google Vice President will deliver remarks.

Samoa Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leautea Schmidt has also been invited to the signing ceremony and is expected to hold discussions with the Google VP.

The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce will have an audience with Mr Quigley at a dinner Wednesday night at A&E café,
