Former customs agent Sheehan Sam Seigafo was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, Jan 8, however the court has granted a continuance to Tuesday, Jan 13.
Seigafo’s attorney Neal Connors asked for the continuance to allow him time to review the Probation Office pre sentence report which was only filed late Wednesday morning.
A jury convicted Seigafo last November of four counts: bribery, attempted bribery of a public Servant, importation of contraband/undeclared merchandise and tampering with evidence.
It was revealed at trial that Seigafo offered a bribe of $3,000 to a customs agent not to inspect a box addressed to Ollie Schuster which had 38 vacuum sealed packages that contained crystal methamphetamine, with a total weight of 39.9 pounds.
It was mentioned in court Thursday morning that the government has filed a sentencing memo with a proposed sentencing recommendation. A flash drive purported to contain videos of certain transactions involving the defendant was included.
The sentencing of Ms Schuster was scheduled for Friday, Jan 9, however the court is postponing her sentencing , until after it rules on a motion by Schuster’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Stanislaw Krawieski, for a new trial.
Schuster was convicted in a bench trial of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and one count of possession of methamphetamine in connection with the same box cited in Seigafo’s case.
