Lt. Governor Pulu Ae Ae Jr. has asked the Department of Public Works to board up the ANZ Building in Tafuna to prevent further vandalism.

The Lt. Governor said he was shocked when he entered the building on Monday.

Lights were ripped from the ceiling, cubicles were overturned, and trash was strewn on the floors.  The building was turned over to ASG after ANZ departed and Territorial Bank of American Samoa  has requested to use the building.

Pulu told KHJ News this is a government asset and it’s very sad that it is in such a deplorable state. “What once was a well kept compound is overgrown with grass.”

The Lt. Governor said he has asked DPW to board up the building to prevent trespassers from entering.

A crew was seen mowing the grass at the compound after the Lt. Governor’s inspection.

TBAS President and CEO Owens Perry had said that they planned to use the ANZ building as an exclusive consumer banking center, while the existing TBAS branch in Tafuna would be used solely for commercial banking.
