Last Friday afternoon armed police officers executed an arrest warrant for a man wanted in connection with a shooting incident on December 28th in Vaitogi.
The operation was carried out at the Siaumau/Samatua tire and auto shop between Tutuila Store and Good Vibes Bar and Grill.
Traffic was brought to a half as police officers arrested the suspect who was in a vehicle with another person.
Police had been searching for the male suspect since the incident on the night of December 28, during which a gun was fired, injuring the hand of another man.
Passersby were shocked to see police officers with weapons and several police units at the scene on Friday afternoon.
When asked why so any officers were involved in the arrest, Commissioner of Public Safety Taaga Saite Moliga said the suspect had eluded police for several days. He said police carried out the arrest successfully and the suspect was taken into custody with the passenger in his vehicle. The commissioner assured that no shots were fired during the arrest operation.
