
A 12.8% drop in the price of eggs was the major contributor to the decline of the Basic Food Index for the month of November, which recorded a .7 percent drop.
The BFI is a monthly rapid assessment of the cost of 20 basic food items in 14 major to mid size retail stores.
The cost of a dozen of small Nulaid eggs was $3.88 in September, then dropped to $3.04 cents in October and last month sold for $2.65.
The price of a case of chicken dropped 3.7%. In September a case of chicken legs was $19.31, in October the price was $18.99 and last month it dropped to $18.29.
Other food prices which were lower in November than October were tuna which dropped 1.7%, fish dropped .6%, the price of mayonnaise dropped .4% and the price of sugar dropped .3%.
The food item which recorded the highest increase in November was sausage which jumped 3.3%. The price of a 16 oz package of Chuck Wagon sausage was $2.15 in September and October then went up to $2.22 last month.
The price of ice cream jumped 3%, milk went up 2.4%, the price of turkey tails went up 1.6% and corned beef was up by .4%.
Food items whose prices did not change in November include bananas, bread, butter, pork, rice, saimin, soda, taro and water.
